Final Great Britain U20 Women’s roster revealed

Great Britain U20 Women’s Head Coach, Jose Maria ‘Chema’ Buceta has chosen the twelve players who will represent their country next month at the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship Division B 2016 in Montenegro.

After an intensive preparation camp in Manchester at the National Basketball Performance Centre, the line-up for Podgorica sees an array of players from the Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL). They include Georgia Gayle of Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters, Gabriela Nikitinaite of Sevenoaks Suns, Barking Abbey Crusaders duo Abigail Johnson and Savannah Wilkinson, while there are also spots for Brixton Topcats pair Paige Robinson and Kyla Nelson.

Bethany Sarson and Sadie Russell are returnees having featured at the same event last summer, which was also held in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica. Meanwhile there will be an international debut for Kennedy Leonard.

“The players have trained hard and wisely during the camp, proving that they have the ambition, courage and talent to represent GB,” stated Buceta.

“This is a group of talented and committed players, who I hope will develop high to enhance GB women’s basketball. It is also great for women’s basketball in the UK that seven players come from the WBBL.

“I am happy with the work we have done and I hope this will be shown during the championship in Montenegro”.
