GB U20 Women Final 12 Set as They Head to Euros

The final 12 player roster that are heading to the Division B European Championships in Bulgaria are set, as the squad left the country early Wednesday morning.

Despite no official announcement from British Basketball as yet, Hoopsfix has learned of the 12 players selected by Head Coach Peter Buckle and his assistants, Karen Burton and Matt Harber.

The squad does not lack experience, having a number of their core returning players including Shequila Joseph, Melita Emanuel-Carr and Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby, while also boosted by the likes of Cheridene Green, who was unable to suit up last year.

However, the team might be the biggest victim in the British Basketball programme of the recent funding cuts. They have had just a five day camp heading into the Europeans, with a single preparation game, a 5 point loss, which took place on Tuesday against a Barking Abbey GB Regional Institute squad that featured just one older player in Diana Naydenova-Goryanova (perhaps trying to prove a point after her omission from this year’s U20 squad, Chantel Charles had 17 points at the half for BA).

The Great Britain U20 women face tough opposition in the 10-team group of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Hungary, Israel, Norway, Germany, Portugal and Lithuania, as they look to improve on their eighth place finish last year.
