Temi Fagbenle Selected by Minnesota Lynx in 2016 WNBA Draft

Great Britain Senior Women’s international Temi Fagbenle has been selected in the third round of the 2016 WNBA Draft.

With the 11th pick in the third round (35th overall), the Minnesota Lynx selected the 6’4″ centre, who averaged 13.6 points and 8.7 rebounds for USC last season.

However, it will be at least a year before Fagbenle suits up as she will forgo this summer of basketball in order to finish school.

Coach Cheryl Reeve said in a press conference streamed by the Lynx:

“With the 35th pick we selected Temi Fagbenle, who played for Harvard first and then transferred to USC to finish her career. Temi’s actually at this point communicated she’s going to forego this summer so she can finish her school so that will be a pick that we’ll be stashing for the future.”

A 2012 Olympian for Great Britain, Fagbenle played three seasons at Harvard and earned anthropology degree before transferring to USC to pursue a Master’s in strategical public relations.

The 24 year old earned WBCA All-Region, and All-Pac-12 honours this season, while leading USC in scoring, rebounding, blocks, steals, FTMs, and minutes and helping the Trojans to 12-0 start; their best since 1982-83.

Fagbenle, who was born in the United States but grew up in London before moving back to the US to attend Blair Academy, the same school Luol Deng went to, has 32 caps for Great Britain.

Should Fagbenle end up playing for Minnesota, she will become just the second British player to compete in the WNBA, joining Andrea Congreaves who played three seasons from 1997-1999.
