GB Senior Women Select Initial 20 for Qualifiers Squad

Great Britain Senior Women’s initial squad ahead of the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers has been announced with 20 players selected.

Recent WNBA champion Temi Fagbenle is included with GB naming an experienced squad with Jo Leedham-Warner and Azania Stewart also selected.

“I trust this group of players to form the best team to achieve the big challenge of qualifying for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019,” said Chema Buceta.

“After working hard in May and June to grow as a team, we will now concentrate on preparing for these games against Israel and Greece.”

“I’m sure we can get a good crowd in Manchester on November 11th to support the team.”

13 of the 20 players selected play in the WBBL with the league having been boosted by the additions of Eilidh Simpson and Chantelle Handy in the summer.

Stef Collins and Rachel Vanderwal add further experience, while Jennifer Ashton is a new face having joined Sheffield Hatters along with Hannah Sunley-Paisley – who had a great college career at uOttawa.

There’s also a return to the squad for Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby, who is playing with WBBL newcomers Durham Palatinates this season, alongside Nicolette Lyew Fong Quee who is also selected.

GB open at home to Israel in Manchester on November 11 before heading to Greece for their second game four days later with Portugal also in the group.
