Ipswich returned to winning ways in style, behind not one but two triple-doubles as Harriet Welham and Esther Little stuffed the statsheet against TVC. Little had 11 points, 20 rebounds and 11 assists – as well as eight blocks – with Welham posting a 17-10-10 line.

Danielle Cazey top scored with a scorching 31-point haul, while Cameron Taylor-Willis added 21 points and nine rebounds in the win. For the visitors, Katherine Goldsby had 26 points and 12 boards in a full 40-minute effort.

The young Lions continued their resurgence with a third straight win in D1 to ignite their top-eight hopes with another success over Cardiff, who remain in bottom spot.

BA London Lions II (1-8) 70-67 Thames Valley Cavaliers (3-6)

It was a first win at last for BA London Lions II as they edged out a resurgent Thames Valley side by three points to end their eight-game losing run.

Leia Edwards top scored with 17 points off the bench as they used a decisive 8-0 run down the stretch to take the win with Wura Ijelu scoring five points in that span.

TVC had wiped out an eight-point deficit to go in level at the half, but would come up short in the big moments late on. Katherine Goldsby finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and six steals, while Eleanor Bishop hit six triples in a 19-point haul.

Worcester Wolves (4-7) 61-77 Reading Rockets (5-6)

Saioa San Francisco led Reading to victory on the road with 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting along with five rebounds and four steals.

The Rockets ran out convincing 16-point winners in the battle between two sides that had identical records heading into the contest. An 11-28 opening quarter set the tone and there was no way back for the Wolves.

Carolina Marques had 17 points, seven assists and seven steals with her side dropping to 4-7 as they fall outside of the top six spots.

Ipswich (10-2) 55-67 Nottingham Trent University (5-6)

Nottingham Trent University secured a big win on the road on Saturday as they handed Ipswich just their second league loss on the season. Schekinah Bimpa produced another huge display with 26 points along with six rebounds in the victory.

The home side made a strong start to lead 10-2 early on, but NTU hit back with a 19-2 spell to gain an advantage they would not relinquish. The gap hit double figures in the second period and a low-scoring second-half ensued as Ipswich were unable to make up the deficit.

It was a tough shooting afternoon with 6-of-39 from three-point range with Harriet Welham top scoring with 20 points, while Esther Little had a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Solent Kestrels (7-5) 57-63 CoLA Southwark Pride (6-3)

CoLA Southwark Pride continued their good run of form as they came from 13 down to beat Solent by six on the road. The hosts started well with their lead peaking at 30-17 with 3:50 left in the first half.

Simona Henshaw led the fightback for the visitors and finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the win with Emilie Black and Emily O’Connell also in double figures.

The Kestrels missed the chance to close the gap on beaten leaders, Ipswich, with Andrea Kurkowski the only player in double digits with 13 points.

Cardiff Met Archers II (1-6) 49-69 BA London Lions II (2-8)

BA London Lions II made it a weekend double as they produced an emphatic 20-point victory in the battle of the basement sides on Sunday.

Leia Edwards led the way again with 16 points in just 16 minutes as the Lions pulled clear in the middle periods as they outscored their opponents 24-41 to take control of the contest.

Carys Roy had 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in the loss for Cardiff as they now drop to the bottom.

NTU leapfrogged Reading in the standings after claiming a seven-point win away from home, on Saturday. Schekinah Bimpa starred in the victory with a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double coming off the bench.

TVC picked up their first win of the season as they upset Worcester with a seven-point triumph. The home side did the damage with a 19-11 third period as they came out on a top in a low-scoring battle.

Makana Stone’s basket with 2.4 seconds left handed Loughborough a dramatic victory over previously unbeaten league leaders, Ipswich. The American finished with a dominant 20 points and 21 rebounds in the win with Molly James knocking down six threes for 24 points and Robyn Ainge had 16 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and six steals.

Susannah Rafiu scored 13 of her 15 points in the fourth for the visitors, who had rallied from a double-digit deficit before suffering their first loss. Esther Little was one assist shy of a triple-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists in defeat.

Robyn Ainge scored 21 points in 21 minutes, while Makana Stone posted a double-double to lead Loughborough to a comfortable home win. The American finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds as well as five steals with the home side dominating the second quarter with a 30-9 period.

The Cavaliers made their season debut and fought to the end as they took the fourth 24-12 to reduce the overall margin of defeat with 21 points from Katherine Goldsby.

Ipswich came out on top in the unbeaten battle at the top as they moved to 5-0 with another impressive road victory. Nick Drane’s side trailed 14-11 to Worcester after a tight first 10 minutes, but began to pull clear – excelling in transition and raced clear for a 12-point win.

Harriet Welham top scored with 22 points, while Danielle Cazey had 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting inside and Ella Pearson added 15 points. For Worcester, Shanice Turner finished with 13 points and 11 boards for a double-double in defeat.

NTU started their weekend double-header by picking up their third league win as they held off Reading in a hard-fought contest. Mady Burdett led the way with a 20-point haul for the home side as they backed up last week’s convincing victory to continue their momentum.

Carolina Marques led Worcester to 3-0 as they came from behind to win in overtime on the road. The Portuguese guard put up 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Grace Brownell added a 16-8-5 stat-line that included the huge three to force the extra period.

Loughborough saw Makana Stone foul out down the stretch with the American top scoring with 17 points and 11 rebounds with the hosts held scoreless in overtime as they were also on the wrong end of a 26-2 run to end the game having led 65-56 with 3:41 to play.

NTU picked up their second win as they pulled clear in the second half to beat CoLA on their home floor. Vicky Gray had a game-high 16 points with Isabel Bueriberi adding 14 points, five rebounds and four assists for the victors.

Reading secured their first win of the league season as they overcame the tough challenge of Solent. Sitota Gines Espinosa starred with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Rockets held their opponents to just 20 points through the middle periods to gain control.

The American rookie finished with 18 points, 25 rebounds and three assists as the Riders held off the challenge of Reading Rockets, who were also searching for their first success and had a shot of forcing overtime at the death.

CoLA Southwark Pride (2-2) 77-81 Ipswich (4-0)(OT)

Ipswich came through their toughest test yet as they moved to 4-0 with a third successive road win, overcoming CoLA Southwark Pride in overtime. Harriet Welham fired in 34 points to go with 10 rebounds for another double-double.

Back-to-back threes from Welham and Cameron Taylor-Willis gave the visitors the ascendancy, but CoLA battle back and a huge triple from Simona Henshaw helped her side force OT. In the extra period, Esther Little – who posted a 16-10-5 stat-line – produced at both ends with a block followed by an and-1 as Ipswich ground out the win to stay perfect.

Isi Ozzy-Momodu had 23 points and 10 rebounds for CoLA as they dropped back to .500 through four games.

Ipswich moved to 3-0 to go further clear at the top of Division 1 with another impressive win on the road against unbeaten opposition. Esther Little continued her dominance with 17 points, 23 rebounds and four assists – racking up a double-double inside the opening quarter – before suffering an injury on a drive to the basket.

Cameron Taylor-Willis caught fire in a 28-point outing, while reigning MVP Harriet Welham also posted a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists and Becky Harwood-Bellis added 16 points including 10 in the pivotal second.

The visitors edged a high scoring first 10 minutes before breaking clear in the second and were able to hold on for a third straight success. Brahe Ashton had 19 points for the hosts in defeat.

Erin Hikin put up 26 points, six rebounds and four assists in Loughborough’s season opener having led by double digits early in the contest.

CoLA Southwark Pride picked up their second win in D1 with a convincing home win over BA London Lions II. Simona Henshaw top scored with 20 points as her side jumped out to a 27-7 start and eased to victory with Molly Lavin adding 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Ipswich made it two wins from two with a hard-fought win on the road at Solent as Esther Little produced another all-round display. The Gonzaga commit finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists for a near triple-double effort, while Charlotte Redhead top scored with 18 points – all from beyond the arc.

Danielle Cazey also netted 17 points for the visitors with Harriet Welham putting up 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. For Solent, Krisztina Velkey had 24 points, 17 rebounds and five assists but could not prevent her side slipping to their first defeat.

The hosts did have a narrow lead at the half-time break, but Ipswich came out firing in the third with five triples between Cazey and Redhead sparked a pivotal 18-3 burst. The gap was back down to five with six minutes to go before, though the hosts were kept scoreless for a crucial five-minute stretch.

Nottingham Trent University (1-0) 88-53 BA London Lions II (0-2)

NTU enjoyed a dominant start to their campaign as they led from start to finish to brush aside the visiting Lions. Former Mystics forward Isabel Bueriberi posted 11 points, 15 rebounds and four steals in the win with Mady Burdett top scoring with 18 points.

The home side scored the opening seven points of the contest and never looked back; holding their opponents to just six points in the third as the lead had grown to 31 points.

BA continued to fight as they were edged in a high-scoring fourth period with Leia Edwards recording a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards, while Kian Omer-Jones had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Defending D1 champions Ipswich started their defence with a convincing victory on the road against BA London Lions II. The visitors were led by a 37-point display from the reigning MVP, Harriet Welham, while Esther Little hauled down 22 boards to go with 21 points, six assists, three steals and three blocks.

Ipswich opened on a 17-3 run to take control and broke further clear with a dominant third period to extend their advantage beyond the 30-point mark for a statement victory.

It was a tough opener for the Lions, who battled well in the second quarter, and had 12 points and nine rebounds from Fatma Abdelaziz.

Bristol Flyers (0-2) 63-68 Solent Kestrels (1-0)

It was a second consecutive defeat for Bristol as Solent Kestrels opened their campaign with a five-point triumph. The visitors trailed 51-46 at the start of the fourth, but put together a pivotal 12-0 run on their way to victory.

Faye Endean top scored with 17 points along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win with Chiara Di Stefano adding 14 points, while the Flyers were led by Mai Zilbeti’s 16 points off the bench.

“Considering it was my first Division 1 game and I was very nervous at the start, I did come out of that game very pleased with my performance,” Endean told Hoopsfix. “But more importantly, as a team I think we just kept working on the defensive end and that is how we got a win out of the game.

“That was a great first start to our season but I know our team is only going to keep building and getting better together.”

Anglia Ruskin University (1-0) 69-50 CoLA Southwark Pride (1-1)

Jazmin Gyulai led Anglia Ruskin to a comfortable opening win with 20 points, six rebounds and five steals against CoLA Southwark Pride. The hosts doubled up their opponents in the second to take a 41-29 advantage into half-time, and never looked back.

ARU also had Courtney Gray with 14 points and 11 rebounds with Autumn Kalis adding 13 points and 12 boards.

Molly Lavin had a double-double of her own with 14 points and 10 rebounds for CoLA Southwark Pride, who drop to a 1-1 record through the first two weeks.

The opening game of the 2020-21 WNBL D1 season saw newly promoted Worcester Wolves claim a 10-point triumph over Bristol Flyers. Portuguese guard Carolina Marques impressed with a 21-point haul, closely followed by Shanice Turner’s 20 points.

The Wolves edged every quarter in the game played at the club’s University of Worcester Arena with 2018-19 league champs Bristol coming up short down the stretch having tied the game in the fourth.

Mai Zilbeti top scored with a team-high 15 points, while Fiona Fox also reached double figures with 10.

CoLA Southwark Pride (1-0) 72-52 Reading Rockets (0-1)

A 22-9 opening period set the tone for CoLA Southwark Pride on their way to a 20-point victory over Reading Rockets. Simona Henshaw led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds with Emily O’Connell adding 15 points.

GB U16 star Isi Ozzy-Momodu posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds from the bench with international team-mate Molly Lavin grabbing nine boards in her D1 debut having made the switch from Richmond Knights.

For the Rockets, Corianne Burgess and Sitota Gines Espinosa shared 12 points apiece with the visitors unable to capitalise on 30 turnovers from their opponents.
