Next up in our new player profile series, get to know GB junior international Jocie Leavold.
The young prospect has been with Oaklands ever since starting basketball and is hoping to make an impact in the WBBL after making 11 appearances in the top-flight last season.
Year born: 2003
Hometown: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Position: Small Forward
Current club: Oaklands Wolves
JL: I like to play up tempo and high energy basketball. I’m always on the move and love competing at both ends of the floor. Defensively, I use my length to good effect: playing the lanes, rebounding and can match up to a number of different positions. On offence, I want to get out in transition and run; in the half court, I like to shoot threes and mid-range and play off the ball.
JL: I want to continue to improve my shooting and also work hard to better my ball handling.
JL: When our GB Under-16 team confirmed a place in the quarter-finals. We had been practicing and playing really hard and it made it even better to do it with the most special team.
JL: Scoring 17 points at the Euros in a game against Albania. [Editor’s note: Leavold finished with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting along with eight rebounds in 18 minutes of GB’s 84-47 victory.]
JL: I’d say my favourite player right now is Paige Bueckers. But, my overall favourite player has to be Kobe Bryant or Sue Bird.
JL: The biggest lesson I’ve learnt through numerous setbacks and the pandemic is to not take basketball for granted and maximise every opportunity I’m given.
🗣"To get the experience at such a young age is just, I can't put it into words."
Jocie Leavold talks to the Herts Ad about her journey and making the jump into the WBBL.

JL: I want to utilise the opportunity I have to play through this pandemic to continue to grow as a player. I want to become more confident on court and grow my role on the WBBL team.
JL: I think Louise Rouse is looking really strong this season and is going from strength to strength at the moment.
