London Lions have been accepted into the EuroCup Women competition for the 2021-22 season, it has been officially confirmed.
Last season’s Trophy and playoffs winners will join at the qualifiers stage as an unseeded team with a two-legged tie standing in their way of making the regular season.
London could face one of two teams from France or Spain or a side from either Belgium, Luxembourg or Portugal with the qualifiers draw to take place next month as they bid to make it to regular season in Conference 2.
They join the men’s side in competing in European competition for the upcoming season with the BBL team set for the Basketball Champions League qualifiers, in September.
The Lions’ WBBL roster will include star point guard Kennedy Leonard having signed a two-year extension with Chantel Charles also expected to return for the second year of her deal, while several high-profile additions are being worked on.
There are also three GB stars that are set to take part next season with Turkish side Mersin – featuring Temi Fagbenle and Kristine Anigwe – and Hungary’s DVTK Miskolc – who recently signed Cheridene Green – directly advancing to the regular season in Conference 1.
