Nottingham Wildcats set final showdown with BA London Lions

There will be a new name on the WBBL Trophy as Nottingham Wildcats set up a final showdown with BA London Lions.

The Wildcats were dominant in the second half of their 75-90 triumph on the road against Manchester Met Mystics, on Saturday, while London were already waiting having defeated three-time defending champions Leicester Riders 58-73 last week.

Jasmine Joyner led the way with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Simone Costa and Chelsey Shumpert both added 19 points with Nottingham outscoring their opponents 43-24 in the second half.

Nottingham were runners-up in the first final of the competition in 2015 with Barking Abbey also losing to Sheffield in their only previous WBBL final, in 2016.

Kennedy Leonard dished out 15 assists during their semi-final success over the Riders with Cassie Breen top scoring with 18 points as the visitors pulled clear in the third in a convincing display.

The Lions were comfortable winners over the Wildcats in their two league meetings this season and the two teams meet in Worcester on Sunday – live on Sky Sports – with the season’s second piece of silverware on the line.
