GB U16 Women Suffer Defeat at Hands of Hosts Montenegro

Great Britain Under-16 Women went down 43-49 to host nation Montenegro at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship Division B in Podgorica on Saturday evening.

Cameron Taylor-Willis scored 11 points and added six rebounds, while Hannah Dawson contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

The game was nip and tuck throughout, GB trailing by 2 at halftime, but a 14-5 run by the hosts to end the third quarter gave them a cushion that GB would not be able to overturn.

“This was a difficult day today. We’ve got to give credit to Montenegro. They stuck to their task and they really battled,” Head Coach Kenrick Liburd commented.

“We got some contributions from some other kids today but in the end, we just weren’t good enough. Down the stretch, they beat us too many times in the same way. We have to be better.

“It was a decent display in terms of work-rate but today was poor for us. We got beat off the glass for the first time and they punished us because we couldn’t take care of the ball well enough. We’ve got to get better.”

Box score.

The players will enjoy a rest day on Sunday before taking on Iceland on Monday night (1715 BST)
